This is not a single recipe for steak seasoning salt. Rather it is a collection of templates that you can mix and match and customize to make your own seasoning salt for steak.
There are two basic templates:
1/3 Paprika, 1/3 Salt, 1/3 Everything else
or
1/2 Salt, 1/2 everything else
For the 1/3 Paprika, 1/3 Salt, 1/3 Everything else template here are some thoughts on
1/3 Paprika | 1/3 Salt | 1/3 Everything Else |
---|---|---|
Smoked Paprika | Garlic Salt | Pepper and MSG |
Mild Paprika | Onion Salt | Pepper |
Hot Paprika | Finely Granulated Salt |
For the "1/2 Salt, 1/2 everything else" template, fill it out like this:
1/2 Salt | 1/2 Everything Else | |
---|---|---|
Garlic Salt | ||
Onion Salt | ||
Finely Granulated Salt |
Notes on Ingredients:
- This is not a good place to use "Kosher" salt, or sea salt. You don't want the large grains often found in those types of salt.
- A lot of people hate using "flavored Salts..."
- A lot of people hate MSG, or think it is bad for them. ...
Older Notes
To make enough for a pound or two of beef:
1/2 tsp Smoked Paprika
1/2 tsp Onion or Garlic seasoning salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp another spice
1/8 Accent or MSG (optional)
Ideas that did not work. (Learn from my mistakes, avoid your own!)
1 tsp Smoked Paprika
1 tsp Garlic seasoning salt
1 tsp Ground Pepper
1/3 tsp Accent (MSG)
This was much too peppery. If I was going to try something like this again, I would use 1/2 the pepper.
